Dingle Home lost in Bear Lake Fire

A trailer home is a complete loss following a fire in the town of Dingle, located in the Bear Lake Valley.

Bear Lake County Fire Chief Mark Parker said the fire department was paged to a possible structure fire at 2929 Dingle Rd at 5:57 p.m. on Friday, May 5. When the first unit arrived, they reported the home was fully ingulfed in heavy flames. No one was home at the time of the fire. However, neighbors told firefighters they had “kicked in the door” to try and get the pets out that were known to be inside. Two dogs and a cat were rescued but two dogs unfortunately died in the fire.

Parker stated that water was immediately applied to the fire and it was quickly brought under control. The home was deemed a complete loss. The cause of the fire was determined to be a thermal runaway with the electric furnace.

Bear Lake County fire district called five stations for a total of nine trucks and 21 fire fighters. Bear Lake County sheriff’s Office and Bear Lake County Ambulance Service were also on scene to assist. One fire fighter was
treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.
