Ford Theatre hosts karaoke contest this Friday

• Cash prizes for contestants in two age categories.

Upstream Entertainment is producing a karaoke contest this Friday evening, September 29 at 6 p.m. Hosts and music pros, Rich and Joanie, will provide tracks for up to 30 contestants.

“Joanie and Rich are awesome,” said James Arbizu, spokesperson for the Salt River Arts Society.  “They know how to make it fun and flow. We had them here a couple of months ago and everyone had a great time. We had great talent, and it was fun just to sit and listen too.”

Desktop Design is sponsoring the event, providing cash prize money for two categories. The adult (all contestants 20 and older) winner will take home $100.  Teen contestants (ages 10-29) have a shot at the $50 prize.

“We have so many great singers in our valley that don’t have enough opportunity to get on stage,” continued Arbizu.  “This is your low-pressure chance to get out and use those amazing vocal chords you have been hiding.”

Sign ups begin at 5:30 p.m., and the contest is limited to only 30 entries, so come early to claim your spot.  Singing starts at 6, with judging at 9:30 and awards immediately following the judging period.

“Hey everyone! How would you love a chance to be on the stage at the historic Ford Theatre in Afton with a fantastic sound system,” invited host Joanie. “If you don’t sing, come on out anyways and enjoy an evening in a comfy seat and be there to see who wins the Karaoke Contest!”
