Gas leaks and car accidents keep local responders busy

Alpine Fire Chief Mike Vogt hangs a new banner at the Alpine Fire Station.

Gas Leak: Monday, April 13 at 11:25 a.m. Alpine Fire and EMS responded to reports of a gas leak.

According to information provided by Alpine EMS, a gas line ruptured when it was hit during a commercial excavation.

“Fire personnel located the leak and clamped it off,” said Al Brokofsky, training officer for Alpine EMS. “No businesses or residents were evacuated.”

Vehicle Rollover: Thursday, April 16 at approximately 6:30 a.m., Alpine Fire and EMS responded to reports of a single vehicle roll over on Highway 89 just north of Alpine.

“Both occupants were evaluated and released by EMS with no injuries,” said Brokofsky. “We would like to remind commuters that Springtime driving conditions can change rapidly.”

Use of Personal Protective Equipment: Alpine EMS is letting area residents know that responders will look a little differently when they arrive on scene.

“As of now COVID-19 has had a minimal effect on EMS operations in our area,” Brokofsky said. “We would like the public to be aware that in response to COVID-19, first responders are arriving on scene in full Personal Protective Equipment until the scene is deemed safe. It is not our intent to alarm anyone with the presence of Personal Protective Equipment. It’s a safety precaution.”
