Gratifying Outdoor Workout Ideas for the Fall

Autumn is one of the best times to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. It’s not too hot and not too cold, so fall is the perfect time to get outside and get your workout in. You’ll have to work out inside during the winter, so take advantage of the lovely scenery and crisp breeze while you can. Wyoming offers some of the best opportunities for outdoor fun and play, and a workout in the open air is never out of the question. We list some of our favorite outdoor workout ideas for the fall below—check them out!

Trail Runs

A killer way to get your cardio in for the day is to head out to a beautiful trail for a run. For those of you who aren’t a fan of the treadmill, a trail run is a great way to get out and see the beauty of nature while you simultaneously get your blood pumping. Apart from improving your heart health, running can enhance your balance and core strength. If running is too hard on your knees, biking is always a great option.

Park Fitness Stations

More and more people recognize the benefits of outdoor fitness parks. For this workout, walk around for a bit to get warmed up and then head over to one of the fitness stations. From ab benches to stationary row machines, you’re sure to get a good workout in.

Stadium Training

With football and soccer season in full swing, it’s an excellent time to try out stadium training. Most schools have these stadiums unlocked for you to take full advantage of the bleachers and track. Stadium training is perfect for those times when you need a more intense workout. Start with a walk or jog around the track, add in some lunges across the field, get some stadium steps in, and you’ll get a full-body workout.

Touch Football and Soccer

Grab some friends or family, and head outdoors for an awesome weekend exercise activity. Gather your group to play a game of either touch football or soccer; both activities provide an excellent way to blow off steam, have fun, and get a fun workout in. Not only will it get your blood pumping, but it’s also an excellent way to reconnect with friends and family—just try not to get too competitive!

Hiking

Hiking is a good workout year-round, but we love the scenery fall provides on a hike. Wyoming is home to many places you can visit and disconnect from the stressors of the outside world. Hiking is also a great workout that doesn’t necessarily feel like a workout. Grab a friend, lace up your boots, and take a walk around some of the most beautiful lakes in Wyoming—the scenery is magnificent!

Yard Work

Before you complain about doing yard work, think about how it saves you from heading to the gym. Yard work is actually a wonderful workout, especially for those who can’t do full on cardio or strength training. Raking the leaves will leave you feeling sore, but your chores will be finished, and your body will thank you for the much-needed time spent outdoors.
