Indoor Track season now underway

A look back at 2024 – The Braves finished as the 3A state runner-up in 2024 for Indoor Track. Time will tell if they can climb that one more spot in 2025. Photo by SVXC Track and Field – Ty Draney.

With a new calendar year also comes the start of the 2025 indoor track and field season with practices starting this week.

The program had a very successful season in 2024 with a fifth place finish for the Lady Braves and a state runner-up performance for the Braves.

The girls will have to replace some heavy-hitters with the graduation of Valerie Jirak who won four individual championships last season as well as Kammi Merritt who was also a champion.

Kaitlyn Bach placed in two events and is eligible to return as is Abi Carrillo-Zarate.

The Braves have the makings of quite a few points returning with much of their distance posse returning from last year’s squad. Habi Wetzel, Peter Lorch, Jase Burton and Colton Cranney are all back as they combined to place in ten events including 1600 and 3200 meter championships for Wetzel.

The Star Valley squads will be competing in the 4A classification moving forward with the implementation of the new WHSAA structures which were put to start the 2024-25 school year. Schools with over 700 enrollment are designated to compete in the 4A class.  Star Valley High School currently has an average two-year enrollment of 919. Up until 2022, the indoor track and field championships were an all-class model.

The first event on the schedule for the program will be at Idaho State University on January 18.
