KDCA to put on program honoring victims of Domestic Violence and women of Wyoming

Kemmer/Diamondville Community Area Chamber of Commerce has been putting on a series this year honoring the women in Wyoming and the next event is coming up on October 5.

Director of KDCA, Ellen Potter, says this event will be the last in the series for the year. It will be held at the Lincoln County Special Event Center at 12 PM and the featured speaker will be Rita Meyer, Vice President of Rocky Mountain Power.

“(Meyer) is a big influence in that company,” Potter said. “So, we’re excited to have her.”

Potter says with October being Domestic Violence Awareness month they will also have two guest speakers come talk about that issue.

One speaker is Terry Baldwin from the Star Valley community and Kimberly Anderson is representing The Turning Point.

She says one way to get a ticket is to call the Star Valley Chamber of Commerce or the KDCA. You can also head to First Bank or Crafters Cottage. The event is free according to Potter, but this will give them an idea who is going to come to the luncheon as food will be provided.

“We’re just so excited,” Potter said. “We’ll also have one of our local restaurants that we’re featuring as caterers… and that’s El Jaliciense.”

She says they have teamed up with Star Valley Chamber of Commerce to put on this series.

“It’s been a great partnership,” Potter said.

The two departments have not put this series together just for women either according to Potter. This is for all people to come and learn about the women in Wyoming.

“I think everyone will be able to get something from this program,” Potter said. “I hope that they come away with not only a new appreciation and are educated on domestic violence, but I’m hoping that they also come away with a sense of community pride.”

She says that is why people who are from the area are speaking and are putting on the event. She says community pride is something everyone can work 0n just a little bit more.
