The Lady Braves basketball team will face off against a pair of familiar opponents this weekend as they host the Lyman Eagles on Friday evening before traveling to Mountain View to stalk the Buffaloes on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles are #5 and the Buffaloes are #2 in the latest Wyopreps.com Coaches & Media Poll in the 3A Class. The Lady Braves currently compete in the 4A Southwest.

Like many teams, Star Valley has not been immune to illness and injury during the season.

“We’ve been fairly healthy,” said head coach Kade Erickson “Otessa [Olsen] was sick for a few days and Lacy [Coles] is out with a concussion, but hopefully will be cleared by game day.

With the program’s last varsity contest taking place more than ten days ago against Soda Springs, Erickson stated that the staff is trying to improve on fundamentals.

“Two things we’ve been focusing on this week, are free throws and silly turnovers in critical moments,” he said. “We have started to move away from focus on drills to more scrimmage and game situations that we need to prepare for. We are also fine tuning our offense, both zone and man and putting in some quick hitters. In practice this week our defense has been awesome and hope to carry that to this weekend. [We hope to] cross our fingers to stay healthy at the varsity level, we have three sophomores out due to injuries.”

Tip-off for Friday’s game in Afton is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.  The Lady Braves will have a quick turnaround as they play in Mountain View at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.  Both games will be covered by SVI Media via digital streaming on this website as well as traditional radio on Swift 98.7 FM.
