Live Here, Give Here: How WyoGives Supports Food Bank of Wyoming’s Fight Against Hunger

Hunger and hardship are being felt in Wyoming communities like never before. Food Bank of Wyoming believes that together, we can change that. Donating to Food Bank of Wyoming during WyoGives Day on July 12th helps provide nourishing food to people across Wyoming experiencing food insecurity. During this statewide online fundraiser, Food Bank of Wyoming asks for your consideration when it comes to supporting Wyoming’s nonprofits.

WyoGives is an initiative of the Wyoming Nonprofit Network. It’s a 24-hour, online fundraising event designed to bring the state of Wyoming together as one community to raise funds for Wyoming’s nonprofits, which do so much to support our entire state. As part of this special day,Food Bank of Wyoming is eligible to receive a matching gift  through WyoGives Day. Online donations made through the WyoGives website will be matched up to $10,000, giving supporters added impact for their donation*. With a limited pool of matching funds, Food Bank of Wyoming reminds people to donate early in the day to receive the match.

How does community support from WyoGives Day impact Food Bank of Wyoming? It means more stocked fridges, filled plates, andnourished bodies across the state. To achieve this, Food Bank of Wyoming serves neighbors in need around the state through their 150 Hunger Relief Partners, 19 mobile pantries, Totes of HopeTM for children and food boxes for older adults.

For example, take Hunger Relief Partner, the YMCA of Natrona County, who, on average, provides food to 200–300 people every week, all sourced from Food Bank of Wyoming. What began several years ago as a single table with food and snacks for kids after school has grown into an essential, full-blown community distribution site, serving as many individuals and families facing food insecurity as possible.

“The food we get here covers the weeks when we’re low on food. We especially love the fresh fruits and vegetables. They’re so expensive in the store and my kids love to eat fruit and veggies. It really helps with the budget and snack time,” says a visitor of the YMCA food pantry.

The Food Bank encourages Wyomingites to come together in honor of WyoGives Day to help their neighbors in need. Donations will have twice the impact thanks to the WyoGives Day matching gift funds with every $1 donated providing twice as much food.*Even $100 can provide as many as 200 meals.

*Online gifts to Food Bank of Wyoming will be matched up to $10,000 or until the $1 million Hughes Charitable Foundation match is expended.
