Local emergency responders had to self quarantine following possible COVID-19 exposure

A group of first responders in Star Valley had to self quarantine after possibly being exposed to COVID-19 during a call.  Lincoln County Emergency Management reports that a call for service at a residence in Star Valley was received this past weekend.  Upon arrival at the scene, responders found CPR in progress and began to assist.   Information began to be gathered that raised some suspicion as to the circumstances surrounding the patient’s condition. Due to reported travel history and some prior symptoms, responders determined that there was a small chance of COVID-19 exposure.  Out of an abundance of caution, the responders self-quarantined as per local protocol and awaited results of COVID-19 testing of the victim.  Test results have been reported back and were negative. No further information regarding the call for assistance or the patient’s condition was given.

Lincoln County Emergency Management stated that while this incident had a positive outcome for the responders, it serves as a reminder that COVID-19 is in our communities and must be taken seriously, adding that risk to individual community members is still low so long as current CDC guidelines and statewide public health orders are followed.  Residents are strongly encouraged to not leave home unless absolutely necessary, limit travel, practice frequent hand washing, and continue physical distancing from others in public at all times. Residents who work in other counties where community spread exists are asked to take extra precautions to avoid potential spread in your home communities.

The CDC now recommends the use of a cloth face covering (NOT a medical mask) when out in public spaces, and especially if you will have close contact with any other people. The use of masks DO NOT take the place of any of the previously-given guidelines. Physical distancing from others is still, and will always be, required to help slow the spread. Infected individuals may not show signs of COVID-19, and therefore, may not even know they have it as they go about their daily routine. This is why ALL community members must take precautions.

If you are sick or believe you have been exposed, it is imperative that you STAY HOME, and contact your healthcare provider. Hospitals have provided COVID-19 hotlines to answer questions and to guide patients to resources as needed. They can evaluate you remotely using telehealth and guide you through your next steps.
