Mel Shumway of Star Valley was sworn into office as the newest member of the Lincoln County Commission on Monday, Jan. 6. The honorable Joseph B. Bluemel of Wyoming’s Third Judicial District administered the oath of office.

Shumway spoke highly of his home county with SVI Media following the ceremony attended by family, friends and county staff at the Lincoln County Courthouse.

“Lincoln County is such a wonderful area. We have everything in Lincoln County, top to bottom,” Shumway said. “We are kind of the envy of the state. I have traveled the state a lot and everybody knows about Lincoln County and what we mean to Wyoming and this nation.”

Shumway said he wants to establish good working relations with the commission and county residents.

“I want to get my base underneath me, be cooperative, work with the commission and work the best we can to serve the people of Lincoln County,” he said. We have some daunting challenges but we have some really gratifying things coming. It will be exciting to work through some of these.”

The new commissioner concluded, “I want to bring a spirit of cooperation, a spirit of fairness and a spirit of transparency to this position.”
