Possible community spread of COVID-19 in Uinta County following second confirmed case

Uinta County in southwest Wyoming is facing possible community spread of COVID-19 following the announcement of the second confirmed case in the county Sunday afternoon.

Uinta County Public Health reports that the patient is an adult male and has been isolating at home and is recovering well.  It was not made known if the person is from the Evantson or Bridger Valley regions.

According to Uinta County Public Health, initial follow up with this and the previous case indicate no known source fo the infections.  This means that there is evidence of what has been suspected: that there is potential community spread of the virus.

Symptoms reported with COVID-19 are cough, fever, shortness of breath, but research has shown that a person can be asymptomatic and still spread the virus.

The public is encouraged to follow these guidelines outlined by the CDC and WDH:
• Avoid close contact (within 6 feet) of others, especially
those who are sick or may have been exposed.
• Stay home if sick
• Avoid gatherings of 10 or more people
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and
surfaces
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least
20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an
alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
• Wear a cloth face covering when in public (like at grocery
store, etc.)
