State Basketball Wrap-up: T-birds, Fillies, Warriors and Bearcats claim Wyoming State titles

The Winter season officially came to a close on Saturday night as the Ford Wyoming Center hosted the 3A and 4A Basketball Championships.

The Cheyenne East Thunderbirds won their first 4A Boys title since 2006 as they defeated Laramie in the championship, 68-59. The T-birds got the championship with wins over Jackson Hole and Campbell County.

The Plainsmen were in the finals for the first time since 2011 with wins over Riverton and Cody but came up short against East.

The Cody Broncs defeated Campbell County, 57-50 in the third-place game and Riverton defeated Star Valley, 53-49 in the Consolation Finals.

In the 4A Girls Championship, the Cody Fillies claimed their first ever state championship with a 65-53 win over Thunder Basin. It was a long wait for the Fillies made even longer by a championship loss to Cheyenne East in last year’s title game. The Fillies completed an undefeated season at 25-0.

The East Lady T-birds got past Sheridan, 47-42 in the third-place. Campbell County defeated Kelly Walsh, 64-48 in the Consolation Finals.

It was a battle of low-scoring games in the 3A Boys Bracket with winning totals of 38, 32 and 37 points in key match-ups.

Ultimately, the Worland Warriors were able to edge the Lyman Eagles, 37-35 in the championship.

Douglas pulled away from Buffalo, 45-38 and Powell took the Consolation Final over Lovell, 65-56.

The Douglas Lady Bearcats continued their title streak at five in a row as they defeated Buffalo, 60-46.

Newcastle nipped Lyman, 41-40 for the third-place trophy and Powell got past Pinedale, 47-44 in the Consolation Finals.
