The following is a press release from the Afton Police Department.
On November 9, 2023 around 5:50 P.M., Afton Police Department, Star Valley EMS, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Wyoming Highway Patrol were notified of a vehicle striking a juvenile male on a bicycle who was in the crosswalk under the Antler Arch in Afton.
According to witnesses and a report filed by Afton Police Officer Dekoda Barnett, a juvenile male had entered the crosswalk from the east and was going west. It was told by witnesses the male did have an orange flag as he was crossing. A white Ram pickup going south struck the male and continued southbound. The suspect vehicle was last seen turning west on Nield Ave/Highway 238. An exhaustive search for the suspect vehicle was conducted by law enforcement however the vehicle has not yet been located.
Video footage was obtained from a local business showed the suspect vehicle to be a newer model Ram Pickup, white or silver in color, with running boards and black wheels. It is believed that there will be damage to the right front area of the vehicle.
The extent of the injuries sustained by the juvenile male were not fully known but he was taken to Star Valley Health by EMS and was subsequently released.
Afton Police Chief Jason Romberg has stated, “It is our hope the driver of the vehicle will do the right thing and come talk to us about the incident.”
