SVHS teams complete pre-holiday slate at Flaming Gorge Classic

Basketball teams from Star Valley High School were in Sweetwater County for the weekend with games in both Green River and Rock Springs as part of the Flaming Gorge Classic.

The Braves went into the tournament after a 58-49 Thursday evening victory on their home court against visiting Sugar-Salem (ID). The Braves had four players in double-figures led by newcomer Dylan Shumway who hit (5) 3-point baskets. Cooper Lancaster had 12, Max Jensen had 11 and Bryson Nield finished with ten.

Friday morning brought a matchup with Thunder Basin with the Braves pulling out a 59-54 win. Jensen and Nield again finished in double-figures.

The Natrona Mustangs were the Friday night opponent and jumped out on the Braves and never looked back as they snapped a four-game losing streak to Star Valley in a 69-47 final. Zane Hedges came off the bench to lead the team with 15 points.

Finally on Saturday morning the Braves crushed the Cheyenne South Bison with a final of 74-29. Shumway was hot from beyond the arc again and finished with 19 total points. Cooper Lancaster scored 17 and Max Jensen finished with 14.
