    The world invited to participate in fast on Good Friday for COVID-19 relief

    President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has called upon people of all faiths and beliefs to join a global fast for COVID-19 relief on Good Friday, tomorrow, April 10. He extended the invitation to the world during the Saturday, April 4, evening session of the 190th Annual General Conference, according to a news release from Church newsroom online at churchofjesuschrist.org.

    This is the Church president’s second invitation to join a worldwide fast, the release explained. President Nelson first invited the public to fast in mid-March for the same purpose. President Nelson has again extended his invitation through his social media accounts, reminding all of “the power in calling upon God in faithful prayer and fasting to bring about relief from the current global pandemic,” the release stated.
    In the meantime, reports from social media are showing a groundswell of support for the fast from around the world. In a Church News article posted yesterday, April 8, Tad Walch wrote: “Hundreds of thousands of people of all faiths are taking to social media to say they will join in worldwide fasting and prayer on Good Friday for relief from the global COVID-19 pandemic.”That momentum for a collective fast is reflected in one new Facebook group that swelled to more than 300,000 members in three days after President Russell M. Nelson issued an invitation over the weekend.”
