The Star Valley Braves Basketball team packed in some great basketball games in the final days of 2022 as they competed in the Eastern Idaho Holiday Shootout in Idaho Falls.

Overall the squad now sits at (6-2) on the season after defeating Burley 75-50 and Centennial 50-45. The Rigby Trojans did get the win against Star Valley on the final day of the tournament on their own floor with a score of 81-73 in triple overtime.

Head Coach Mitch Schwab reflected on the weekend.

“The Burley game was hard to find what we did wrong because it was a pedal to the metal game,” he said. “Centennial showed us some good things that were compounded in the Rigby game. We just need to keep guys away from the free throw line and keeping our guys out of foul trouble. Overall, it was a good weekend. We are determined to improve. We learned that good ball movement with our offense is where we thrive.”

Burley: 50
Jacob Hodges led the team with 18 points and 11 rebounds as the Braves led by as many as 31 in the contest. Luke Linford and PJ Horsley each had 14 points and Taft McClure finished with 10.

Centennial: 45
Hodges once again picked up a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds before fouling out against the Patriots. Horsley and Croix Jenkins each had 11 points.

Rigby: 81 – 3OT –
The Braves gave the fans some extra basketball to round out the tournament as their clash with the Rigby Trojans went to triple overtime. Jenkins led the team with 15 points and seven rebounds. McClure scored 13, Linford finished with 12 and Taeson Johnson had ten. Hodges was one point short of yet another double-double with nine points and ten rebounds.

The team now has just one game this week as they hit the road again to face the Sugar-Salem Diggers who are off to a (6-1) start of their own.

“I think it will be a good match up again,” Schwab added. “That’s a heck of a ball club and they always are. It’s going to come down to a dogfight. They are the type of team that punches you in the mouth early and if we’re not willing to do the same we’ll be in trouble. Bear Lake played them really well.”

The Braves and Diggers varsity game begins at 7:30 on Thursday. Join the First Bank of Wyoming Countdown to Tip-off at approximately 7:10. Video of the game will be streamed at svinews.com with traditional audio on Swift 98 in the Star Valley area.
