• Wrestlers place 2nd at Madison Invite

The Braves grapplers added another podium finish to their season as they competed at the Madison Invitational in Rexburg, Idaho over the weekend.

The Star Valley boys placed second at Madison with 158.5 team points.

Tel Parry and Kooper Burk won their weight classes with Grant Thomson, Kolbe Merritt and Ty Thompson placing second.

“I felt really good about it,” replied head coach Eddie Clark. “They wrestled well and we got some things to work on but that’s the idea. We need to get a little better on top and we need to control wrists a little better. Some technical things like that.”

In addition to the two champions, nine other wrestlers placed in the event.

“They all wrestled super well,” Clark added. “Some of them performed way above what their own expectations were which is fun.”

The Star Valley masters of the mat will be back in the Gem State as they now return for the traditional Tiger-Grizz Invite which has been one of the top tournaments on the wrestling schedule for decades.

“It’s a giant tournament,” Clark said of the Tiger-Grizz. “The Richardson, Tiger-Grizz and Ron Thon are our biggest tournaments. They vary from year to year of course, but Corner Canyon will be there with their full team and they are tough. Some of the teams might be bringing some guys who didn’t make it from earlier in the year. It’s always a very good event.”

Clark also added that the program is working to fill spots including a major injury this past weekend.

“We are making some weight class adjustments but we will get it done.”
