Weekend wrestling recap from the Pat Weede Memorial

 

The Braves and Lady Braves met up with some of the top wrestling programs in the region as they traveled to Gillette to compete in the Pat Weede Memorial. 

On Day 1, the Braves picked up dual victories over Moorcroft (43-32) and Rapid City Central (43-28) before falling in a close battle with Thunder Basin (39-36). Star Valley finished out the day with victories over Powell (51-21) and Bismarck Century (45-36). 

On Day 2, Star Valley handled Sidney (49-27) before coming up short against Butte (45-27). The tournament came to a close with a close loss to St. Mary’s, (40-36). 

Top individual performances for the Braves included Levi Byrd went (7-1) at 120 pounds, Tel Parry went (8-0) at 132 pounds, Porter Merritt went (7-1) at 150 pounds and  Kal Burk went (7-1) at 175 pounds,

The next scheduled contest is a JV and varsity quad in Rupert, Idaho on Thursday December 21.

• Lady Braves Wrestling

The Lady Braves made the program’s first-ever trip to Gillette for the event and made a big impression as the Star Valley girls won the team title with a whopping 223.0 points, 96.0 points in front of second-place Thunder Basin’s 127.0. Sheridan was third with 106.0.

Individually, Hallie Robertson (107-113 lb), Paisley Smith (112-115 lb), Remington Aullman (128-132 lb), Veil Foreman (144-149 lb), Brook Schwab (151-154 lb) and Shaely Kunz (155-160 lb) finished with 1st place efforts. 

Kenna Merritt (107-113 lb), Keston Johnson (118-120 lb), Alexis Angell (119-124 lb), Samantha Walker (128-132 lb), Oakley Hepworth (134-140 lb) and Cashlee Hepworth (201-219 lb) finished second in their weight classes.

The Lady Braves have on final event left on the schedule prior to the Christmas break as they are slated to be at Ridgeline High School for a dual on Tuesday, December 19.
