Wyoming Prep Roundup: August 30, 2019

It was a busy opening weekend for the SVHS teams and those in the surrounding area. Here’s a look at some of the scores from the first weekend.

Star Valley 36 Summit Academy 7
David Castillo rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown and Dean Shaw went for 107 yards and a touchdown as the Braves won their 10th straight game dating back to last season. Star Valley will be in Blackfoot, Idaho next week.

SVHS Volleyball
The Lady Braves swept Lyman (25-22, 25-6, 25-12), Campbell County (25-18, 25-16, 25-19) and Bear Lake (25-7, 25-7, 25-12). Star Valley will be in the Gold Bracket on Saturday.

Terry Berg Golf Classic in Lander
Worland boys win the tournament with a total of 639, edging the hometown Tigers who were second with a 642. Star Valley was third with a 672. The Tigers took the top three spots with Dominic Yates winning with a total of 142. Wilson Brockie and Gavin Dixon were second and third. Worland took the next four spots and Star Valley’s Preston Kilroy, Jake Johnson and Tyler Hodges all finished in the top-ten.

The Jackson Lady Broncs won the girls tournament with a total score of 580 with the Tigers second and a total of 620. Star Valley was third with a score of 694. Lander’s Rachel Stoinski ran away with the individual crown with a 155, winning by 34 strokes. Jackson’s Sara White, Jacqueline Neishabouri and Martha Olson were second, third and fourth respectively. Star Valley had one top-ten finisher in junior Taylor Erickson who was ninth with a score of 213.

Star Valley Cross-Country

The SVXC team were also in the Beehive State as they ran against some of the faster teams in Utah on El Monte Golf Course. For the Lady Braves, Jacie Angell led the team after missing much of last season with several different injuries. Angell finished the 3-mile course in a time of 20:32.6. New teammate, Emily Strasburg was close behind with a time of 20:34.1. Overall the Lady Braves placed 22nd out of 33 teams in attendance.

Peter Visser, fresh off a top-100 pre-season ranking from DyeStat.com, ran a 15:45.1 and finished 10th overall in a fast field. Seth Robertson of Herriman, Utah won the race with a time of 15:16.5. Jesse Loveland was second for the Braves with a 16:17.1. Overall the Braves were 17th in a field of 42 teams. Star Valley rival, Jackson Hole, was 20th.
