Work to boost self-response rates for the 2020 Census continue this week in Wyoming. As of Monday, April 20, 42.2 percent of households in the state had responded to the census.

According to Jennifer Hillmann, media specialist for the regional census office, census results “help determine how billions of dollars in federal funding flow into states each year.”

“The 2020 Census will have a direct impact on all Wyoming communities because it helps provide funding for programs that assist children, seniors, families and everyone in between for the next decade,” Hillman said. “To date, over 75 million households nationwide have responded to the 2020 Census, pushing the national self-response rate to 51 percent.”

According to Hillman, it has never been easier to self-respond to the national census.

“We encourage Wyoming residents to self-respond as soon as possible,” said Hillman. “Go to 2020census.gov or call 1-844-330-2020. You can complete the census online, by phone, or by mail.”
The Census Bureau is “currently taking steps to reactivate field data collection operations after June 1, 2020,” Hillman said.

Later this year, the U.S. Census Bureau plans to send census takers to visit households that have not yet responded to the 2020 Census to help them complete questionnaires, Hillman added.
The current deadline to respond to the 2020 Census is October 31, 2020.
