
A Big Piney man, formerly from Star Valley, is dead and two others have been charged in relation to his murder according to a news release from the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO).
According to the release, “on the afternoon of February 5, 2025, Sublette County deputies responded to a report of a deceased male at a residence in Big Piney. Upon arrival, deputies discovered 23-year-old Dakota Farley of Big Piney inside the home with significant injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

“During the initial investigation, two adult males were taken into custody for questioning. This morning, both individuals were formally charged in Sublette County Circuit Court. Rowan Littauer, 19, of Big Piney, has been charged with Murder in the first degree and Mutilation of a dead human body. Orion Schlesinger, 18, of Big Piney, has been charged with Conspiracy to commit murder in the first degree, and Felony Theft in connection with Farley’s death.”
According to court documents obtained by the Cowboy State Daily, Farley “died of arrow wounds from a compound bow and his scalp showed post-mortem BB wounds.”
The first-degree murder charge in Wyoming is punishable by life in prison or the death penalty. In addition, the charge of mutilation is punishable by up to five years in prison and $10,000 in fines, or ten years in prison if the action was taken to hide a felony.
The conspiracy to commit first-degree murder charge is also punishable by life in prison or the death sentence. Felony theft can be punished by up to ten years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
“This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” information from the SCSO release stated. “No further details are available at this time. Anyone with information about the case can contact Detective Sergeant Travis Lanning at 307-367-4378.”
STAR VALLEY TIES –
According to information provided by a family friend, Farley and his family lived in the Alpine and Star Valley Ranch area until moving to the Marbleton area approximately five years ago. According to the Pinedale Roundup, Farley was a 2019 graduate of Pinedale High School.
Farley served a service mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sublette County. He was not still serving his mission at the time of his passing.
