Law enforcement officials and first-responders were on scene of a multi-vehicle accident on US 89 north of Grover on Thursday morning February 20. The crash resulted in serious injuries to several people and multiple citations were given out.
According to information provided by the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP), two sport utility vehicles (SUV) were traveling northbound and one sedan was headed southbound when the lead SUV attempted to merge onto Grover-Narrows road.
“The roads were snow-covered and slick,” said Trooper Luis Tapia of the WHP. The lead SUV made their decision to merge but did so in an unsafe manner. The second SUV was also following too close and going too fast for the conditions and they collided.”
This collision forced the lead SUV into the southbound lane where it was t-boned by the sedan. The driver of the sedan sustained serious injuries which required transport out of the area. Several other occupants were transported for medical care and sustained what are described as minor injuries. The driver of the lead SUV was ejected from the vehicle but was treated and released.
The road was closed for approximately 60-90 minutes while officials worked the scene.
Trooper Tapia stated that many elements of this incident could have improved the outcome.
“If the roads are busy like they are during the morning commute with snowy and icy conditions, you need to triple or quadruple your driving distance,” he said.
