• Sewer lagoons expanded, new water line on Adams
Afton’s sewer lagoon expansion project is underway. It started in the fall of 2024 and continues in the spring of 2025.
Afton Town Administrator Violet Sanderson reports 80-percent of the excavation work has been completed. She says to expect more activity at the site once the snow melts.
“We will expand the Lagoon footprint,” she explained. “We have more lagoon pools going in, as well as a lined cell and aeration.”
Sanderson added, “That will help with the smell at the turnover time of year and will help with the longevity of our sewer lagoon system.”
Adams Street
In other Afton utility news, the Adams Street water line will be replaced in a one-block section.
“There’s a section between 5th and 6th that needs repairs and we are actually replacing the line there.”
The pre-application meeting for the project is April 17 and bids will be open on May 1, at 2 p.m. in the Afton Town Hall.
