Lincoln County School District No. 2 Superintendent, Matt Erickson, was recently given the Myron Basom Leadership Award by the Wyoming Association of School Administrators (WASA). The award “recognizes a superintendent that has exhibited true educational leadership characteristics of Direction Setter, Instructional Leader, Communicator, Manager of Resources, Board and Community Leader, and Empowerer of People,” according to the WASA website.

The recipient is selected by the WASA Executive Committee.

Speaking of Erickson in the WASA Annual Awards and Recognition Banquet on May 1, in Casper, President Bruce Thoren said, “If you need something, you call him. He’s done a great job being an asset for people who need something. I happened to have the opportunity to have a few charter schools in my district and he’s spoken with me about that information for his area who had that interest. He’s done a great job advocating in his district.”

Erickson stated that he was surprised by the honor.

“To be honest with you I was shocked and humbled,” he said. “I was not aware until right before the awards banquet. It’s obviously a team effort. I didn’t earn this award by myself by any means. I highly respect the group that was in charge of this committee so that made it pretty special. Our home-grown leadership institute and our work with local legislators were part of it so that was pretty cool too. I received the award but it was a team effort and I’d like to point out Jason Horsley, Cory Hokanson, JC Inskeep, Nate Westcott and Barney Kleeman for all their hard work at the district level.”
