• Afton Administrator honors co-workers
Afton Town Administrator Violet Sanderson was honored with a Community Hero Award at the Wyoming Association of Municipalities (WAM) Summer Convention in Cheyenne this year.
The award honors individuals who give back to their community, something Sanderson has been doing for the past seven years in her position with Afton.
For Sanderson, the award is an honor for all those that make Afton and other small communities a success in Wyoming.
“It feels a little bit undeserved and I say that only because I know the ins and outs of every employee that I work with daily and I know how hard they work and so I humbly accept the award in their honor as well as the family members who support those who work day in and day out to make our communities great,” said Sanderson.
She explained that receiving the honor at the WAM meeting had meaning as it came “in a room full of people of elected and appointed officials who are community heroes in their communities every day.”
Acknowledging the countless details of running a municipality, Sanderson said, “The real heroes are the ones doing the work, all the small stuff nobody sees in the back end.”
She added, “It’s exciting to be honored with an award but I think it’s a little undeserved. My name is attached to a lot of things but I’m not the one doing all the work every day.”
With those initial years behind her, she concluded. “As long as I am afforded the opportunity to serve the Town of Afton, I will continue to do so to the best of my abilities.”
Afton Mayor Jeff Jensen commended Sanderson and the Afton staff for their work.
“Afton has a monopoly on people committed to their jobs, Violet is one of those people,” he said. “Violet is deserving to be recognized as a Community Hero from WAM. She is dedicated to the well being of Afton in her work and efforts as a Town Administrator.”
He added, “From her work in revitalizing downtown, establishing a Main Street Alliance and all of the countless things she does, this is a well deserved recognition.”
