Independent Notes: District rangers with a vision for possibilities

Changes in the federal administration may be opening up business opportunities for those watching and understanding the possibilities.

SVI has featured some of the work developing on the south end of the Bridger-Teton National Forest where further trail development is underway in the Kemmerer District along with improvements for the public access and better viewing of Big Springs.

However, the opportunities are not limited to recreation as both the Kemmerer and Greys River Districts are developing plans for small projects that offer business incentives.

In an upcoming interview heard on SVI’s Weekday Wake-up, Kemmerer District Ranger, Adam Calkins, outlined plans for small timber sales in both his district and the Greys River District under the direction of District Ranger Justin Laycock.

“We realize many folks are looking for five to six acre timber sales they can use for firewood, or as a front yard sawmill for bunk-beds and furniture. That’s the idea behind these small timber sales,” Calkins explained. “We hope to have the first sale in mid August.” He encouraged people to  watch for an announcement.

I commend our local district rangers for their ingenuity and foresight. This opens up small business opportunities while addressing a forest with dead and dieing timber.

Let’s go to work and make it a multiple use forest!
