SVI Radio Interview: Jim Webb, Lower Valley Energy CEO

Lower Valley Energy CEO Jim Webb stepped into the SVI Radio studio on Monday, August 4 to detail the process of filling a vacancy on the Board of Director’s left open due to the passing of long-time board member Fred Brog.

(0:00) Welcoming in Jim Webb this morning to the studio. (0:03) Jim is the CEO of Lower Valley Energy. (0:06) Jim, good morning.
(0:06) How are you today? (0:07) Good morning, Duke. (0:08) I’m doing great. (0:09) How about you? (0:10) Doing well.
(0:10) Appreciate your time coming in. (0:12) Of course, a vacancy on the board of directors. (0:14) And before we get to how that’s going to work, (0:16) I know Lower Valley released a statement (0:18) after the passing of Fred Brogue, (0:21) who was on the board for a lot of years, 37? (0:23) Yeah, 36, 37 years.
(0:25) And we appreciate Fred’s service. (0:28) And we’re gonna miss him a lot (0:29) and because of his passing, (0:31) we have an opening on the board. (0:33) But Fred did a great job (0:35) and we had kind of a surprise at his funeral.
(0:38) Senator Brasso showed up (0:40) and actually sat on the stand and spoke. (0:42) And so that was a real honor to have him at the funeral. (0:45) And I’m sure Fred was smiling from the other side.
(0:49) Absolutely. (0:49) And nobody knew that was happening, right? (0:52) Dan Dockstader got a call sitting there (0:54) waiting for the funeral, (0:56) said it was Brasso saying, (0:58) hey, Dan, I’m at the airport (0:59) and I’ll be there in a minute. (1:01) Well, you don’t just replace a Fred Brogue, right? (1:04) I mean, you don’t just take applications (1:06) and replace someone like him.
(1:07) No, no, Fred’s an institution (1:09) and this was a religion to him. (1:11) Of course, his father was one of the founders (1:14) of Lower Valley. (1:15) So all of that knowledge (1:17) and institutional background is hard to replace.
(1:20) But the board wants to act quickly and fill that vacancy. (1:24) And so I just wanted to talk about the process. (1:26) And of course that’s district two for Lower Valley Energy.
(1:30) And that’s basically everything (1:32) in the Lower Valley, west of Highway 89. (1:36) So if you’re in the Lower Valley, west of Highway 89, (1:40) and you’re a member of Lower Valley Energy, (1:43) then you’re eligible to serve on the board. (1:46) And basically what the board will do, (1:48) they’re taking applications through August 10th.
(1:51) So there’s a short time. (1:52) That’s why I wanted to, (1:53) I appreciate you allowing me (1:55) to come on the radio this morning. (1:57) So they have to act quickly.
(1:58) They need to send a resume to Julia Shumway (2:01) at jshumway at lvenergy.com. (2:05) Or you can call Lower Valley Energy at 307-885-3175. (2:11) But just send in your letter of interest and a resume. (2:15) And then on August 13th, (2:17) the board will be interviewing people (2:19) to select a new board member for district two.
(2:24) Now, we need to keep in mind that that person (2:26) only serves until the next annual meeting, (2:29) which is next June. (2:31) And at that point in time, (2:32) the position will be open for a general election. (2:35) But they’ll run for a two-year term (2:38) to finish out Fred’s term.
(2:40) So they’ll be nominated, appointed by the board, (2:44) and serve one year. (2:46) And then they’ll have to run for another two-year term. (2:49) And then back to the normal three-year cycle.
(2:52) Excellent. (2:53) All right, so CEO Jim Webb (2:55) in studio with Lower Valley Energy. (2:56) So again, the deadline to submit the application (2:59) is the 10th, is that right? (3:01) August 10th, yes.
(3:01) All right, and how do you submit the application again? (3:04) You just send an email to Julia Shumway (3:07) at jshumway at lvenergy.com. (3:11) And then we’ll submit all those to the board. (3:14) They’ll go through them. (3:15) We’ll make appointments for people on August 13th, (3:19) and they’ll interview with the board, (3:20) and then the board will make a selection.
(3:22) And again, you just need to live in District Two (3:24) and be part of Lower Valley Energy. (3:26) Yeah, you have to be a member. (3:27) So you need to be careful.
(3:29) Look whose name’s on the bill, and if you’re a member. (3:32) Sometimes if you’re a married couple, (3:35) you can have a joint membership, (3:36) but sometimes you don’t have that. (3:38) So you just need to be careful and check (3:39) and make sure that you’re actually the member (3:42) of Lower Valley, and it can be a joint membership.
(3:44) Jim Webb, Lower Valley Energy CEO. (3:46) Jim, we appreciate the details. (3:47) Yeah, thanks, Duke.
(3:49) Appreciate it. (3:50) It’s all part of the weekday wake up this morning (3:51) on SBI Radio.
