Local music festival returns: Reggae in the Rockies set for September

Gray Bear Productions, founded by local Alpine couple Dave and Becka Walters, is gearing up for the eagerly awaited “Reggae in the Rockies” festival on September 5 and 6 at the Alpine 4-H Ranch. This annual event, which first launched in 2021, is set to rejuvenate the community with a lively music experience after a brief pause.
The festival’s origins date back to 2020, when Dave and Becca began organizing intimate music events to support charitable causes, including the Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Their love for live music inspired them to transition these gatherings into a larger festival dedicated to reggae, a genre close to their hearts.
“Reggae in the Rockies is about more than just music; it’s about creating a community vibe,” says Dave. “We just wanted to bring the music vibe to the valley, and kind of get everybody more into having live music in the valley, whether it’s reggae or another genre, it doesn’t matter.”
Over the years, Gray Bear Productions has faced challenges, including changes in venue partnerships, but they remain committed to fostering a love for live music in the valley. The couple has also been involved in Alpine’s Thursday Night Music in the Mountains events, providing sound and production support.
This year’s festival aims to maintain an intimate atmosphere while featuring national acts. “We really kind of like small, or more intimate shows,” Dave explains.
“We appreciate all the regional support and bringing in these nationally renowned bands of all sorts. It’s been really a pleasure for us to do. We just really appreciate the community for helping support this.” He continues to say, “We’ve been getting tons of positive feedback, so it’s been awesome.”
In addition to music, the festival will feature a variety of vendors. While food vendors are confirmed, Gray Bear Productions is still looking for additional vendors and sponsors to support the event. To get involved or to ask about vendor opportunities, interested parties can email Gray Bear Productions directly at graybearproductions365.com.
As the festival approaches, Dave and Becka invite everyone to join in celebrating live music in a welcoming environment. “We’re looking forward to an amazing event and can’t wait to see everyone there,” Dave adds.
