The Afton Town Council met in their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 with many items on the agenda. One item regarding the utilities department has the potential to affect several hundred town residents in regards to their water bill in the coming months.

According to Utilities Director, Josh Peavler, town personnel went through a full audit of the utilities department and the system so that the town is accounting for every meter. Built into the system is a $17 usage fee which was not being billed correctly for some residents who were using less than 60,000 gallons per month. Moving forward, that fee will be put in place for residents who use anywhere from one gallon up to 60,000 gallons. The error was discovered as the revenue was found to not be consistent which triggered the audit. In particular, some apartment complexes within the town limits were not being billed for their entire units.  The adjustment in the billing could affect anywhere from 250-300 users moving forward.

In other news, Peavler noted ongoing projects in the west alley and an update on flow meters which gives them the capability to see how much water comes into the town’s million-gallon tank.

It was also reported that the replacement of the main water line near Aviat will move forward this summer as they start to receive bids. This will improve water and fire flow for homes in that direction according to Peavler.

Mr. Buzz McManus addressed the town council with a request that the town consider paving Valli Vu Drive near the condos at the golf course in order to keep dirt, dust and mud down in the vicinity.

Mason Hillstead was appointed to the Airport Board to replace Francis Brown. Mayor Jeff Jensen noted that Afton is the fourth busiest airport in Wyoming.

Four of the five people on the Golf Board were reappointed having reached their three-year limit. Those people were Dustin Hill, Homer Bennett, Kendall Erickson and Kelly Fulmer. Dain Schwab will also continue as part of his current term.

Council member Dirk Hillyard addressed the council in regards to the lights on the Elkhorn Arch during the holidays and wanted to open a discussion of adding permanent lights to the arch. Leftover RGB lighting from the Star Hill project were brought up as a potential start to this project.

A town ordinance regarding the usage of electric bikes and other such vehicles was passed on second reading.
