Jenna Mays, Wyoming Asset Manager for ExxonMobil, spoke with SVI Media’s Dan Dockstader after presenting to both the Fossil Basin and Star Valley Chambers of Commerce on Tuesday, May 12.
(0:00) SBI Media now with Jenna Mays, she’s the Wyoming asset manager of Exxon Mobil, essentially (0:04) overseeing Exxon Mobil’s Chute Keep Creek operations in southwest Wyoming. (0:10) Jenna Mays, you’ve just completed a long day of two presentations, first of all in Kemmer (0:15) and then in Star Valley, explaining Exxon Mobil. (0:18) What is your message about Exxon Mobil? (0:20) What do you do in southwest Wyoming? (0:22) In southwest Wyoming, we run an incredibly unique gas plant where we produce helium, (0:29) natural gas, and CO2 and provide those products to the world, it’s a really cool facility (0:36) to come visit.
(0:36) There’s demand for the product and you ship it all over and employ people at the same (0:41) time. (0:42) Yes, we have 200 long-term employees at our facility and about 100 long-term contractors, (0:47) so we’ve got a very strong and large presence here in southwest Wyoming. (0:51) These people live in multiple communities, Kemmer, Sweetwater County, where do they all (0:56) live to and commute to into Exxon Mobil’s Chute Creek? (0:59) If you can drive an hour from Chute Creek, I guarantee you, you will find an Exxon Mobil (1:04) employee in that town.
(1:05) So we’re all spread about 60 or so in Kemmer, we reach all the way to Cokeville, all the (1:10) way to Pinedale, pretty much any town you can think of in this corner of the state. (1:15) One of the things that caught my attention as I learned more about Chute Creek is that (1:18) key of how you affect the economy. (1:21) Payroll and taxes combined, what do you do for the southwest economy? (1:26) We contribute over $100 million a year through local taxes and local wages to this corner (1:32) of the state.
(1:33) And that’s a ripple effect all the way down to the small businesses in those communities (1:36) you just mentioned. (1:37) For sure, we love the opportunity to support small businesses from the local restaurants (1:41) in the towns to smaller manufacturers, just supporting the event centers with booking (1:46) time in them. (1:48) Any chance we can get to give back locally is key for us.
(1:51) Thoughts on the employees, the people you have working there? (1:54) You employ a lot of families, individuals with families throughout southwest Wyoming. (2:00) You closed your comments here in Star Valley that you worry about them, making sure that (2:04) everything is good for them. (2:05) We have the best employees in the state.
(2:08) I will put them up against anyone. (2:09) They are a group with incredible tenacity, spirit, care for the community. (2:16) It’s an incredible group of people.
(2:18) Where do you see ExxonMobil Chute Creek going in the years to come? (2:22) We’re going to be here forever, essentially. (2:25) We’re fortunate to sit on 100 years of reserves, which means we will continue to be here in (2:30) southwest Wyoming for longer than most of us are alive. (2:33) ExxonMobil, a big part of the Lincoln County and southwest Wyoming economy.
