SVI Radio Interview: Tim Hale – LCSD2 Education Foundation

Tim Hale, Chairman of the Board for the LCSD2 Education Foundation, called into the Weekday Wake-Up on Wednesday, May 27 to promote the public open house for the second student built home in Afton. The project is done in partnership with the foundation, the Bank of Star Valley and Star Valley High School.

(0:00) It’s the weekday wake up with Duke, Dell, and Dan on the SVI Radio Network. (0:08) 747 this morning on Swift 98 and the Spur. Tim Hale joins me live over the (0:12) phone right now this morning.

Tim, chairman of the board for the LCSD II (0:16) Education Foundation and an exciting day today for the foundation. Star Valley (0:20) High School, the Bank of Star Valley with a public open house today for the (0:25) second completed home in this construction program spearheaded by the (0:29) foundation, the Bank of Star Valley High School. Tim, good morning.

How are you (0:32) today? Hey, Duke. I’m doing great. How are you? Fantastic.

Appreciate your time. (0:38) Culmination here that we’re seeing this again. For those who are maybe not (0:42) familiar with the program, just remind our listeners what this project is and (0:46) what it’s become.

Yeah, it’s really an incredible program and something that (0:50) we’re just so proud to have been a part of and continue to be a part of and just (0:55) so grateful for the Bank of Star Valley and the high school and those who are (0:59) involved there. So really this has been a combined effort of the three, these (1:03) three organizations, the foundation, the bank, Bank of Star Valley and the high (1:08) school. And basically what we have going is lots are identified where homes (1:14) can be built.

Those are, those lots are donated by the Bank of Star Valley to (1:19) the foundation. Then the high school with their different, different classes (1:25) led by Michael Mattson, leads the home building effort. And it’s not just (1:30) building the home, it’s everything from the planning to budgeting to, you know, (1:35) just getting everything organized.

And then from, from top to bottom, that home (1:39) is built and constructed by the students. So it’s an incredible opportunity for (1:43) the students to learn as they go along. All these incredible skills and trades (1:48) during this class.

The bank, this incredible contributor to the effort, (1:55) both the land, the bank bought the tools and they continue to buy tools. They also (2:00) provide very inexpensive financing for the construction loan on the project. And (2:07) then when everything is done, as we’re going to kind of be heading off here (2:10) with this second home, the home is sold to the community.

And then the proceeds (2:15) from that sale are rolled back into the program to continue financing the next, (2:20) the next home that these high school students will build. So it’s an (2:23) incredible opportunity for the foundation to make an impact on the (2:26) community in its own small way, provide affordable housing for the high school (2:32) students to learn incredible skills and for the banks to play the role in the (2:37) community that they love to play. (2:39) Love it.

Absolutely. So the home is complete and there’s an open house today. (2:42) Tell us about that.

(2:44) Yes. So open house, um, completely open for the public. It will be from noon (2:49) today to 1 30.

Excuse me. And the open house will be at the home. So it’s 302 (2:56) Honeybee Lane.

So this is in the new Honeybee Meadows developments just (3:01) south of Afton, kind of on the, um, I guess the east side of the highway. If (3:06) you’re going south and you’ll see quite a few homes that are already built in (3:10) there and, uh, just come on down 12 to 1 30. Anytime today, we would love to (3:16) greet you.

These students will be there to show you around. We’ll have folks (3:19) from the bank folks from the, um, from the school district, from the (3:23) foundation, uh, and just really an opportunity to celebrate what these (3:27) students have done. We’ll have some light refreshments and, uh, we, we just (3:31) love the community.

They come, uh, and, and, and just, just show their support (3:35) and show what an incredible job these kids have done. (3:37) Perfect. So that’s again today, noon to 1 30 on Honeybee Lane, just near the (3:43) golf course in Afton 302 Honeybee Lane.

And that’s Tim Hill, chairman of the (3:46) board with the LCSD2 Education Foundation. Tim, thank you for your (3:50) time. We’ll see you in a few hours today.
