Blue Sky Camp concert offered Friday

Star Valley’s annual Blue Sky Music Camp concert is scheduled for Friday, July 10 at 6 p.m. on the historic Ford Theatre stage in downtown Afton. Camp students will perform pieces that they have created and learned throughout the camp.

Blue Sky offers musical experience and instruction to students aged 11-18 with at least one year of experience on their stringed or folk instrument or their guitar. Vocal technique and singing in harmony are also valuable skills.

Morning classes are dedicated to instruction on technique and skill building, while afternoons offer the opportunity for collaboration in ensembles. Under the guidance of a master adult musician, students create an original piece or arranged cover that they prepare to present in the concert at the conclusion of the camp.

“Each student participates in two ensembles, which teaches a variety of skills from arranging music to working creatively and effectively with others,” said Jaclyn Lechner, who serves as Executive Director of the Salt River Arts Society that offers the camp. “A jam session each evening offers additional opportunities to develop unique musical skill.”

The culminating concert on Friday offers students the opportunity to “showcase what they have been working on and learning throughout the camp,” said Lechner. “It is a fun opportunity for folks to support the value that this music camp provides to our young musicians in the valley!”
