Auditions for Salt River Community Theater’s fall musical production of “Finding Neverland” are scheduled for July 23-25 from 6-8 p.m. all three evenings at the historic Ford Theatre. In addition to the call for adult actors, the organization’s fifth annual musical this year involves four featured roles for young male actors, age 8-14.
“I’ve loved this musical for a long time and it’s a really fun show,” said director and Salt River Arts Society’s Executive Director, Jaclyn Lechner in an interview on the SVI Radio Network. This musical script shares the life experiences of author J.M. Barrie who penned the beloved children’s classic fantasy, “Peter Pan.”
“If you’re a boy between eight and 14, you’re welcome to come audition” for the cast that typically accommodates 15-20 cast members, which is a good fit for the size of the Ford Theatre’s more intimate stage.
Encouraging friends to audition, Lechner emphasized the value of participation that goes beyond the art. “It’s a way to build friendships, and you also get to work on some skills and maybe try something new or just come back to the stage if you’ve been there before. It’s just so much fun, and it’s so fulfilling to be able to put on an amazing production. It just feels great.”
No experience is necessary to audition, and everyone is welcome. “We’ll take anyone who wants to try.” Candidates should come to their audition prepared to sing a one- or two-minute song of musical theater style. “After that, we might have you read some from a scene just to see some fun acting, but just come prepared with the song, and we’ll take you.”
Rehearsals begin the last week of August with the cast meeting every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7-9 p.m. for those rehearsals. Performance dates are set for November 12-14 and 16, and November 19-21 and 23.
Jaclyn is grateful to everyone who helps behind the scenes in producing these musicals. “I am directing, but there’s a lot of people who help. Brandon Burnham is incredible with our sets and our sound, and Tammy Nielsen has helped us so much as the other director with the organization.
“There are so many amazing people involved each year, and the cast helps so much,” said Lechner. “I’m super excited to work with another great cast. Come support the Ford and come support your local community theater. It’s always super fun.”
