Alcohol suspected in pair of Alpine accidents

A pair of alleged DUI-related accidents drew the attention of local authorities in the Alpine area late last week. 

According to information from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, on Thursday, July 23, a two-vehicle accident occurred between a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Lincoln Aviator. The driver of the Lincoln left his lane and crossed the turning lane and the collided with the Jeep in a head-on alignment. Some serious injuries were reported as a result of the collision. The driver of the Lincoln, Medan Kaplan  of Alpine, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and taken to Kemmerer for processing.

A second accident later that evening involved a motorcycle which hit the guard rail at mile post 123 on US 89. The driver of the motorcycle was taken by life-flight to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. The driver, David Carter of Sandy, Utah is also being investigated for a potential DUI as well as reckless driving and other violations.
