The Bridger-Teton National Forest recently completed a maintenance project on Greys River Road south of Alpine, with improvements made on the South End on Fish Creek and Smiths Fork Roads.

“We’ve been focusing on a lot of road work and improving and maintaining access into the forest,” stated Greys River District Ranger Justin Laycock during a live interview on SVI Radio, stating that a new surface aggregate has been applied to the first 13 miles of the Greys River Road starting in Alpine. “We also started a project on the Smiths Fork Road where we are bringing in a mobile rock crusher. That machine is going to crush up all of those rocks that are sticking up out of the road that we can’t do much with our motorgrater to try to smooth those out. It crushes those and it makes them into a finer material. We’re going to see a great improvement along the Smiths Fork Road, especially going up over Commissary Ridge.”

The work on Smiths Fork began last week. Laycock said it will be a six week project. After finishing in Commissary Ridge crews will work toward the upper La Barge area and then to the upper Greys and move down river from there.

In addition, the forest service has completed improvements on the Fish Creek road in the location of last year’s Willow Creek Fire. “Right now it’s smooth,” stated Laycock. “Access into that area is something that we’ve really focused on.”
