The Town of Afton held a public open house Tuesday, September 22, to gather community input for its Comprehensive Master Plan update.
Residents, business owners, and other community members were invited to stop by the Afton Civic Center between 4 and 7 p.m. to review maps, identify concerns and opportunities, and speak with town staff and consultants from JUB Engineering.
Afton’s current comprehensive plan was created in 2008. The update is intended to guide future decisions involving growth, development, land use, housing, infrastructure, and community services.

Town Administrator Violet Sanderson said public participation is essential to the planning process.
“We really need to hear from the residents and businesses of the community to understand what we want Afton to be in the future,” Sanderson said. “That’s what the comprehensive master plan is—a planning document for the future of Afton.”
The town also launched an online public survey designed to gather community input and establish priorities for Afton’s future growth and development. The survey asks participants to identify priorities related to the natural and built environment, economic development, public services, quality of life, housing, and the community’s overall character.
Participants can also suggest projects and issues they believe are important. Interactive mapping questions allow respondents to identify specific locations where housing, infrastructure improvements, transportation connections, and preservation efforts may be appropriate.
The survey is expected to remain open through October for those who were unable to attend the open house. Following the review of public comments, survey responses, and existing planning documents, the town expects to hold another open house in early spring to present findings and gather additional community feedback.
