Property Tax Relief filing period opens October 1
25-50% exemption for Wyoming homeowners
October 1 marks the first day homeowners in Wyoming can apply for property tax relief for the 2026 calendar year, with March 1, 2027 being the deadline to apply. Two programs are available, including the Homeowner’s Property Tax Exemption and the Long-Term Homeowner Exemption.
The Homeowner’s Property Tax Exemption is for owner-occupied single family residential structures and offers a 25% off the first $1 million in fair market value. The homeowner must have lived in the home for at least eight months of the year. Beginning October 1, homeowners can apply online at ptd.wyo.gov. The application deadline is March 1, 2027.
The Long-Term Homeowner Exemption is for Wyoming residents age 65 and older who have paid property taxes in Wyoming for at least 25 years. The exemption offers 50% off the first $3 million in fair market value. Once again, the homeowner must have lived in the residence for at least eight months of 2026 in order to qualify. Applicants can apply through the Lincoln County Assessor’s Office between October 1, 2026 and March 1, 2027.
Anyone with questions on either program can contact the Lincoln County Assessor’s Office at (307) 877-9056.
