Bowling league for individuals with disabilities comes to Star Valley

• Sponsor a bowler, or join the league for eight weeks of bowling

Together We Bowl will begin Thursday, November 5 and continue for eight weeks. The new bowling league for individuals with disabilities began with several groups coming together to provide an activity for those who may not have other opportunities to get together and participate in the sport.

Amy Hansen with Star Valley Station’s Skyview Lanes said they host LSR members well as a separate group that comes in weekly.

“I was like, hey, why not get them a bag and a ball and let’s put it all together and give them a special opportunity to come in and have fun and enjoy themselves,” said Hansen.

Tyralee Larson and Kelly Meyer both come in with individuals they assist with in bowling.

“The young man that I help with is always like, ‘Why can’t I bowl on the league?’ So we started talking… Why can’t we put a league together for them?”

Meyer highlighted how those who have aged out of the school system also age out of those consistent interactions with peers and with the activities they have had.

“They lose their peers, they lose that support system, but they also lose the fun things that they all did together,” said Meyer. “I think this is just a great opportunity to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to feel included or a chance to belong to something, be a part of a team, celebrate their wins and celebrate them with others who are just as excited to be there with them.”

Anyone who has questions or would like to join can stop by Star Valley Station on Thursday or contact Hansen at 307-413-8177.

Hansen also invites anyone who would like to sponsor a bowler to reach out as well. The cost is $150 and includes a ball, a bag, and eight weeks of bowling. The cost of the ball and bag can be removed for those who already have them.
