The Lady Braves had a great home crowd for their annual Pink Night as they hosted the Evanston Lady Red Devils. The visitors dominated the first two sets 25-14 and 25-15 before the Lady Braves found their footing. Star Valley extended the match with wins in the next two sets, 25-22 and 25-21. A slow start in the fifth and final frame doomed the comeback 15-8 but Star Valley showed their grit and determination in the effort.

“We played a little bit intimidated,” said head coach Kalin Schwab. “The nice thing is I was able to see the girls settle in and decide that we’re not going to go down that way. They pushed them to a fifth set which was our first of the season. But I was impressed in our fight and moving forward, hopefully it makes Evanston a little nervous.”

The parity of the 4A classification behind top-ranked Kelly Walsh was on display again this week as Star Valley then traveled to Green River and swept the Wolves despite their first place standing in the 4A Southwest.

“Green River was leading our quad before we played them on Wednesday,” Schwab said. “They are a team that beat Evanston, we were able to sweep them. It keeps people scratching their heads about the volleyball situation.”

The Lady Braves will now wrap up the regular season Thursday night with a match at Jackson which will be the host site for the 4A West Regionals on October 30-31.

Schwab pointed out that it will be Pink Night for the Lady Broncs as well and hopes that fans that travel will bring a few dollars to donate to the Jackson efforts. He knows in a rivalry match that anything can happen.

“Truthfully you just never know,” he concluded. “If you look at Jackson’s win/loss that’s one thing but they’ve pushed some people and caught them off guard. We get to play on the floor that we’ll play on for regionals and see how we feel about it. We like playing Jackson. They are a fun program and they bring a lot of energy.”
