Singer-songwriter Mark Winters is bringing his “Acoustic Me” tour to the Ford Theatre on Friday, April 11 at 7 p.m. Winters offers a folk blues style with original music from his solo acoustic guitar.

New to Afton, Winters’ performance features original acoustic guitar influenced “a lot by John Mayer and Jason Mraz…with a folk blues style,” Winters shared in an interview on the SVI Radio Network last week. “I’m all about the positive vibes. I think I was born sort of seeing the best in the world and the best in people. I love writing about places I visit and people I meet. I’m also a bit of a science nerd so I try to blend in a little bit of science. I’m looking forward to sharing some positive vibes with Afton.”

Raised in a suburb of Houston, Texas, Winters’ grandparents taught him to love writing and poetry, as well as math and science. A “bonafide rocket scientist,” Winters earned a degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical Engineering, so his math and science interests influence his poetic creativity. Haiku is his preferred form of poetry and folks who attend his concerts can expect to enjoy his flare for that form.

“My musical journey actually started in 2011 when I picked up a guitar to sing a song for my wife for our anniversary,” Winters shared. “I really fell in love with delivering music to people that I care about. My history as a poet led me from that moment of total rapture to writing my own music and sharing my own perspective. I went to school and had a great time, but made a left turn out of engineering and ended up in music, and I really haven’t looked back since.”

Winters’ current tour is taking him through several western states and into the northwest before returning him to Texas.  “This is a solo tour for me. You’ll hear me playing acoustic guitar…and I sing and play a little bit of harmonica.”

Winters enjoys writing about the places he’s been. “I would love to write a song about Afton and some of the beauty there. Those are some of the things I love uncovering when I’m visiting – take a tour of town and enjoy some of the beauty there. I love uncovering the cool magic of each place that I visit.”

Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at markwintersmusic.com or at saltriverarts.com. “I’m just excited to meet the people of Afton and visit for the first time. It’s going to be amazing! Ford Theater here we come!”
