Salt River Community Theater has called for actors to audition for their fall production of the Broadway Musical “Damn Yankees.” Auditions are scheduled for Thursday, July 31, and Friday, August 1, from 6-8 p.m. at the Ford Theatre.
This year’s musical is produced by Jaclyn Lechner and directed by Tami Nielsen. Auditions are open to all adults, ages 18-99, and there are roles in this show for folks of those ages. Candidates should come to auditions prepared to sing 1-2 minutes of a Broadway style song and then read in character from the script.
“Damn Yankees” shares the story of Joe Boyd, a die-hard Washington Senators fan, who is frustrated by the Senators’ consistent losses to the Yankees. He declares he will sell his soul for the team to win, and the devil, Mr. Applegate, shows up to make a deal with him.
“There’s a lot of fun show stopping music,” said Lechner. “We would love to have everyone who has interest in being a part of our community theater come and audition!”
Rehearsals will be held every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday beginning August 26 and run through performances in November. Eight performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Ford Theatre November 13, 14, 15, 17, 20,21,22 and 24.
Lechner encouraged individuals and businesses to take the opportunity to sponsor the community theater. “If you or your business are interested in sponsoring our community theatre events, please email us at AftonsFordTheatre@gmail.com for more information about sponsorship opportunities that can promote your business in our playbill and through our organization.”
