Willow Creek Fire now at 40% containment

The Willow Creek Fire south of Smoot is now considered 40% contained as of Tuesday September 2, 2025. The area of the fire is at 4,065 acres and officials with the Bridger-Teton expect full containment of the fire by September 15.

CURRENT SITUATION

Crews are continuing a direct approach to the fire’s containment. Steady progress was made, gaining more ground along the eastern and southern perimeter. Crews are spiking out along the fire’s edge to be more readily available to construct handline and continue mopping up. Helicopters are working with crews on the ground to address areas with heat and stop potential growth of the fire.

WEATHER FORECAST

Temperatures on Tuesday will be in the low 80s, with winds around 6 miles per hour, gusting to around 15 miles per hour. Look for more of the same into Wednesday and Thursday, with lower temperatures coming in on Friday. With the hot and dry weather during the middle of the week, fire behavior is expected to remain active with potential increases in smoke.

Smiths Fork Winter Trailhead is closed. Within the described area, all roads and trails are closed including Allred Flat Campground.
