College and Career Readiness programming is now available to individuals who seek a high school equivalency certificate or support with improving their English communication. Programming and classes are available through the center located at 247 Washington Street in Afton next to Subway.
“We can help get you ready for college or prepare for a better job,” says instructor Jarene Fluckiger. “We offer classes for earning a high school equivalency certificate, formerly a GED, and improving English communication [for individuals who are working to learning English as a second language].”
Fluckiger has over 50 years of teaching experience and a passion for helping people succeed. Although CCR is a separate service, offices are located in the same suite as the Western Wyoming Community College Star Valley Outreach Center.
Folks seeking information or individualized instruction are invited to visit during office hours, which are Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon-6 p.m. and Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Folks are welcome to make an appointment by phone at 307-886-9333
“College and Career Readiness helps you get ready for college, while Star Valley Outreach helps you ‘do’ college such as enrolling in college credit and noncredit classes and providing test proctoring, among other services,” says Fluckiger. “Former students can attest to the benefits of attending College and Career Readiness to help with gaining a high school equivalency certificate.”
Students who have completed these classes are grateful and pleased with the opportunities that they have received through completion of the program. “I felt the program was very beneficial,” says Camry Granacha. “I was able to work with a tutor one on one and work at my own pace. With the completion of the program, I am able to attend Utah Tech University studying to get my bachelors in Chemistry.”
Having spent his school years in a homeschool program, Cliel Roberts took advantage of the opportunity offered through the program to test for his high school equivalency certificate. “I had such a positive experience with everyone at WWCC as I worked to get my HiSet! They truly were invested in my success and I could see they were interested in helping others succeed as I did!”
Ashley Powers has had an “amazing” experience. “The staff here in the Afton location have been super supportive, and they’re willing to go the extra mile to make sure you succeed and reach your goals.”
