Recently posted results for the 2024-2025 Wyoming state assessments in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science reveal that Lincoln County School District #2 students have markedly exceeded state average scores and demonstrated significant year-over-year growth. WYTOPP assessments are administered each spring, measuring student academic progress for the current school year, and tracking progress over the course of several years in a row.
“These results reflect the incredible dedication of our teachers, staff, students, and families,” says Jason Horsley, Director of Education for LCSD#2. “We are proud of the progress we’ve made and excited about the direction we’re heading.”
When compared to other districts that serve a similar number of students and families, LCSD#2 posted “impressive” results. English Language Arts scores established that 72.4% of LCSD#2 students are proficient in ELA, “which is well above the state average and represents a 2.8% gain from last year,” Horsley added.
8th and 9th grade students demonstrated some of the largest statewide gains in reading achievement. Student scores were the highest state-wide in English Language Arts for LCSD#2 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th grade students. WYTOPP assessments are not administered to 11th and 12th grade students. All other grade levels in ELA ranked in the top four among similar-sized districts.
“These accomplishments don’t come easily,” says Steve Burch, Principal at Star Valley Middle School, in reference to middle school student performance. “They are the result of consistent effort, perseverance, and the partnership between home and school” reflecting the “hard work and dedication of our students, the guidance of our teachers, and the ongoing support of our parents.”
LCSD#2 students ranked 2nd among large districts tested in Math. 6th grade students ranked first with 3rd, 4th, and 7th grade students all ranking second. 9th and 10th grade math students improved 4.1% and 5.3% respectively.
Science students in LCSD#2 ranked third in overall proficiency, up 2.3% from last year. 10th grade students showed unparalleled growth at 5.7%.
“Lincoln County School District #2 students continue to shine,” says Horsley. “Our district posted strong gains in reading, math, and science, with several grade levels showing some of the largest statewide improvements. I am extremely proud of our students’ hard work and the relentless pursuit of excellence our teachers demonstrate. I am reminded each fall, when we see the results of the previous year, how fortunate we are to live here and how Lincoln County School District #2 is preparing students for ‘Success at the Next Level,’ one grade at a time.”
