SVI Radio Interview: Tom Glause, CEO of the PRCA
Dan Dockstader spoke with Tom Glause, CEO of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA), regarding the decision to move the Pro Rodeo Headquarters and Museum to Cheyenne, Wyoming.
(0:00) I’m meeting with Tom Glause, he’s overseeing the proposed change of PRCA headquarters (0:06) from Colorado to Wyoming. (0:07) Tom, what does it mean for Wyoming to bring this to the Cowboy State? (0:12) Well it’s really exciting times for both the state of Wyoming and the PRCA. (0:18) I can’t think of a better fit for either the state of Wyoming or the PRCA.
(0:24) Our shared values, our missions align so well together. (0:28) You know, the Cowboy way and what we’re really proud of at the PRCA is, first of all, our (0:36) work ethic, our determination, family faith and country. (0:41) We respect the military, we stand for the flag, and we’re a very patriotic organization.
(0:49) It’s a good fit for Wyoming, no doubt. (0:51) It is a great fit for Wyoming. (0:54) What’s the process then at this point? (0:56) How do we make this all happen? (0:58) Well, we were approached by Cheyenne Leads, and it’s not the first organization that has (1:06) ever approached us, but it’s one of the few that we thought was a fit for the PRCA.
(1:16) First of all, I want to say thank you for Cheyenne Leads reaching out to us. (1:20) I can’t tell you how good it feels to be wanted. (1:25) Somebody appreciates our sport, they appreciate our way of life, they appreciate the Western (1:32) culture, and they want us to help them preserve those values in their state.
(1:39) So it’s an exciting time to have all that come together. (1:43) Just talking about time, how much longer would this all take to happen? (1:46) You know, it’s a monumental project. (1:50) It’s part of a bigger project.
(1:52) If it comes to fruition, we’ve entered into a memorandum of understanding with Cheyenne (1:59) Leads. (2:00) We’ve got a proposed timeline for a build-out of approximately three years. (2:06) In concluding thoughts, what does it mean to Wyoming to have this? (2:11) Not just Cheyenne, but all across the state.
(2:13) I want to talk about the benefits to Wyoming because Jackson Hole, you know, people come (2:20) to Wyoming looking for a Western experience. (2:23) What a better opportunity than to be given that experience at the state line. (2:29) They can start to experience how the Cowboys help develop and define what Wyoming is.
(2:37) And even in the small communities, like in Star Valley, they have a PRCA rodeo, isn’t (2:41) it a good fit? (2:42) Absolutely. (2:42) Afton’s been a great PRCA rodeo. (2:45) We’ve got great PRCA rodeos throughout the state.
(2:49) But it preserves the culture. (2:51) It brings economic development to the state. (2:54) It brings jobs to the state.
(2:56) And it gives our ag-based state an opportunity to keep our students with job opportunities (3:05) within the state. (3:06) So I think it’s a win-win. (3:08) Very good.
