Prescribed burns planned for Thursday & Friday in Dry Creek area

The Bridger-Teton National Forest is planning to begin prescribed burning activity in the Dry Creek area east of Osmond on Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20. Smoke is likely to be visible from the valley floor.

The burn is part of the ongoing Star Valley Front (SVF) Rx Project, which began in recent years near Grover and has moved south along Star Valley’s eastern front.

While fire warnings have been issued in portions of southern Lincoln County, Greys River District Ranger Justin Laycock reiterated that no such warnings have been issued in Star Valley. “Conditions are actually ideal right now,” stated Laycock in reference specifically to the burns taking place this week in Star Valley.

“We estimate this work to continue through the spring and early summer as weather conditions allow,” said Mary Cernicek with the B-T. “We use prescribed fires to help reduce overgrown vegetation to help protect local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires.”

Cernicek said during burning operations some areas may be closed to the public and advised watching for signage along roads nears prescribed fire areas.
