Private studio music students from throughout Star Valley are participating in the National Federation of Music Clubs Star Valley Spring Music Festival on Saturday, April 11. Honor students who receive top ratings in the festival will offer a public recital at the Ford Theatre on Monday, April 13 at 7 p.m.

“The Star Valley Spring Music Festival represents the culmination of months of dedication and hard work,” said festival organizer Teri Lund.  “Students prepare and memorize two pieces to perform for an adjudicator, receiving quality feedback and a performance rating.”

National Federation of Music Clubs is a nationwide program that offers students the opportunity to prepare for adjudication from professional judges. Students studying piano, string instruments and voice are invited to register and participate in the festival based on teacher recommendation. Teachers then support students in preparing for the festival. Student performances are evaluated based on technical skill and musical interpretation.

“Countless hours of practice go into mastering these selections,” said Lund. “From these performances, the adjudicator selects the most outstanding to be featured in the Honors Recital where cash awards are presented—an achievement that recognizes truly exceptional musicianship.”

Lund reminds the community of the value of music study for youth and adults alike. “Participation in music lessons offers far more than learning to play an instrument. Students build discipline, work ethic, and confidence, developing skills in public performance and the ability to rise to a challenge. The Honors Recital celebrates not only musical talent, but the commitment and personal growth of these young performers.”
