After scoring a combined 13 times in their previous meeting in Sweetwater County, a 9-4 Green River victory, the first half in Afton was a shutout for both teams in a 0-0 intermission. Will Collins collected six saves in goal for the Braves and was aided by a terrific effort from the back line of the Star Valley defense. Green River got a blank slate through the first 40 minutes from Jake Demaret.
Green River then put together a stellar stretch of approximately 12 minutes with some pinpoint goal opportunities as Braxton Doak gave the Wolves the lead just two minutes into the second half off a perfect pass from Tommy Vasco. It was Vasco himself who slipped through the Braves’ defense for his own goal in the 45th minute to give Green River a 2-0 advantage. Doak then put in a spectacular header from a 4o-yard by Max Hintz for a 3-0 score in the 54th.
Star Valley regained their footing with some quality chances which included a goal from Jacob Howe in the 71st minute where he and Demaret and another player all ended up in the back of the net. Star Valley had multiple opportunities, including a one-on-one with Max Matijczyk and Demaret which was turned aside by the Green River keeper to preserve the final.
