Seven Star Valley High School music ensembles from the choir, orchestra and band programs participated in the Southwest District Music Festival held at SVHS on April 21-22, earning Superior ratings perfect or nearly perfect scores. Two of the ensembles competed at Music in the Parks in Utah, earning top scores there as well.

Ensembles from seven additional schools participated in the district festival. Qualified individuals from surrounding states served as judges for the festival. One of the judges commented to the SVHS Chamber Orchestra that their performance was “so beautiful it almost made me cry.”

“They all did a fantastic job and performed at a very high-level,” said Kari Allred, SVHS Choir Director. “They worked extremely hard and it really showed in their final performances.”

Treble Tones and the Concert and Chamber Orchestras traveled to Utah last weekend for the Music in the Parks festival where judges from BYU and Weber State found the Star Valley musicians to be “high quality” performers.  Treble Tones placed First in the Women’s Choir division and received the trophy and highest score for Best All-Around Choir.

Concert Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra were two of only three ensembles that received Superior ratings out of 15 registered groups. Chamber Orchestra was the highest scoring group at the event with a score of 95.75 out of 100.

Concert Band and Jazz Band each performed in the District Festival “Both groups performed beautifully,” said Kurt Sand, SVHS Band Director.  “I am very proud of our band students and the work they’ve put in this school year.”

All judges at both events commented on the strong performance and musicianship of the SVHS students. “The praise from professionals in the regional West is a testament to the caliber of students and programs found at Star Valley,” said Lisa Barber, SVHS Orchestra Director. “I am grateful to be a part of such a special musical community!!”
