SVI Radio Interview: Violet Sanderson, Town of Afton Administrator

Violet Sanderson, Administrator for the Town of Afton, called into the Weekday Wake-Up on Tuesday, May 5 for her monthly report. Sanderson discussed upcoming summer events as part of America 250 along with ongoing and upcoming spring and summer projects.

(0:00) Duke, Del, and Dan. (0:02) It’s funny. (0:03) It’s funny without being annoying.

(0:04) I really love you guys. (0:05) I listen. (0:06) It’s funny.

(0:07) On the SVI Radio Network. (0:09) They’re great. (0:10) I think they’re really, really great.

(0:11) It is 8.36 this morning live on SVI Radio, Swift 98 and The Spur, (0:15) heading into our first guest interview segment of the day today (0:18) in town of Afton, Administrator Violet Sanderson joining me on (0:22) the weekday wake up. (0:23) Good morning, Violet. (0:23) How are you doing today? (0:25) Good morning, Duke.

(0:26) I’m doing great. (0:27) Thanks for having me. (0:28) Yeah, absolutely.

(0:28) Appreciate your time as always. (0:29) And, you know, we’re into May and a very exciting summer on the (0:33) way, of course, with America 250, especially for the town of Afton (0:36) because you have the wall that heals and a lot of people putting (0:40) in a lot of time behind the scenes right now to make this all (0:42) click and come together this July. (0:45) We do.

(0:46) We’ve got a lot of things planned. (0:48) We’ve got some great events for locals and the people that are (0:51) going to be coming to visit Afton. (0:54) Our normal Freedom Festival schedule, that would be that last (0:58) Saturday in June has kind of been pushed to the following week.

(1:01) So we’re having the majority of our celebrations on the 3rd and (1:04) 4th of July. (1:06) We’ve got all of the events that are scheduled listed on our (1:09) Facebook pages and social media. (1:11) So everybody that’s interested in what’s going to go on those (1:13) two days can view that there.

(1:15) And then the following week we have the wall that heals that’s (1:18) going to be coming to Afton, which is pretty exciting. (1:22) So that’s kind of a big deal for not just Afton, but for this side (1:25) of the state, we’re really excited. (1:27) And there’s information on the Wyoming welcomes the wall that (1:31) heals website as well.

(1:33) Absolutely. (1:34) So a lot going on and a lot of preparation taking place ahead (1:37) of it Violet. (1:38) Let’s talk about what’s being worked on right now as well with (1:40) the town council in the town of Afton.

(1:41) What’s been maybe in the discussions recently and on your plate (1:45) with the town of Afton? (1:47) Well, it’s that time of year. (1:49) Everybody’s looking to do something as far as development or (1:51) building. (1:52) So we do want to give everybody a courtesy reminder that if you’re (1:57) going to be building any sort of structures or, you know, maybe (2:00) you’re going to put up a fence that you never really had before.

(2:03) Some of those things do constitute a building permit. (2:06) And so we just ask people to reach out so we can make sure that (2:10) we get you permitted properly to do those things, but that’s (2:14) kind of what’s keeping us busy right now. (2:15) We’re in the process of formalizing the developers agreement (2:18) with the developers for that for the Silverbrook estate subdivision.

(2:25) First, I believe first and second phase is going to be brought for (2:28) final approval on the plat in the June meeting. (2:31) So that would be both the June P and Z for review and then a (2:34) recommendation to council on whether to go final with that. (2:38) So we do anticipate that coming and all of the conditions of (2:43) approval that are going to be set out in the developers agreement (2:45) to be put into the bond that’s going to be required of that (2:49) developer.

(2:50) So that’s kind of keeping us a little bit busy as well. (2:53) We also have just our normal, you know, spring summer projects (2:56) going on in terms of, you know, some of the maintenance that (3:00) we’ll be doing on the roads, the parks. (3:03) I don’t know if anybody is has really been able to enjoy the (3:07) opportunity to go sit on the bed.

(3:09) The I would say the picnic tables that we’ve got over at (3:13) Canyon view park. (3:13) Now in the next week or so, we’ll have the shade screens up on (3:17) that new structure that we’ve created last fall. (3:19) So that’ll give people a nice place to sit while their kids play.

(3:23) I’m looking forward to the shade structure. (3:25) That’s going to be fantastic. (3:26) Speaking with Violet Sanderson this morning, Town of Afton (3:29) Administrator, speaking of some of the spring summer projects (3:32) Violet, last time we talked you mentioned, of course, you were (3:35) looking for a loan to do the sewer project expansion project (3:41) on the south end of town.

(3:43) Reminder listeners, is that something that we should begin (3:45) to see happening later on this summer? (3:49) Yeah, so that project decided to start spring of 2027. (3:53) So we’re still in the final design stages. (3:55) However, we did have enough of an engineer’s estimate to move (3:58) forward to gain the loan that we have asked for from SLIB.

(4:01) And one thing to point out to the users of our system is that (4:06) the increase that we will need to have on our billing structure (4:10) for water will go into effect July 1st of this fiscal year. (4:14) And so that will show up on the August bills. (4:17) And so we do have information going out within the bill packet (4:21) some things that will be posted online just to help everybody (4:24) understand that there will be a little bit of an increase on (4:27) your water bill to help, you know, with the repayment of (4:31) the loan and that will start effective July 1. (4:34) And so it will come out on the August billings.

(4:37) That’s Violet Sanderson, Town of Afton Administrator, this (4:39) morning on the Weekday Wake-Up. (4:40) Anything else you missed that you’d like to mention today, (4:42) Violet? (4:43) I would just say keep your eyes and ears open for your kids (4:47) if you want them to be involved in our junior leagues this (4:49) summer. We’ve got, you know, the t-ball and baseball for the (4:53) little kids.

(4:54) There will also be the Junior Softball League and we’ll also (4:59) have soccer this summer too. (5:01) So keep your eyes open on the Town of Afton Facebook page (5:03) and our other social media platforms where we’ll be sending (5:06) out information on registration for those activities. (5:08) Perfect.

(5:09) Sounds great. (5:09) That’s Violet Sanderson, Town of Afton Administrator. (5:12) It’s all part of the Weekday Wake-Up this morning on SVI Radio.
